Jenny Simpson BSc (Hons) FCA DChA

Jenny is one of the best-known charity advisors in Scotland and heads our specialist charities team. She has specialised in charity accounting and auditing since she qualified as a chartered accountant over 25 years ago and was one of the first people in the UK to be awarded a Diploma in Charity Accounting by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, a qualification awarded to people who can demonstrate a high level of competence in charity accounting and financial management.

She is currently serving her second term as a member of the charity SORP Committee, the advisory body which advises the SORP making body (OSCR, Charity Commission England & Wales and Charity Commission Northern Ireland) on the form and content of charity accounts. This gives her an early insight into developments in charity accounting which means we can ensure our clients are informed about what’s on the horizon. She was a member of the Scottish Charity Appeals Panel from 2007 to 2018, an independent body which hears appeals concerning decisions taken by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, and during 2019 and 2020 served on a Scottish Government working group looking at dissolution regulations for SCIO’s. She also regularly presents at local and national conferences on accounting issues faced by charities.
